The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA, Administrator Taeseog Oh) held the 5th
Aerospace SOS Consultation Meeting on Thursday, May 14, at Hanwha Aerospace’s 1st Plant in Seongsan-gu, Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do. The meeting brought together representatives from the industry* to explore ways to revitalize the Nuri rocket (KSLV-II) launch ecosystem and promote private- sector-led growth in the space transportation sector.
*Participating companies (11): Hanwha Aerospace, Korean Aerospace Industry (KAI), Doowon Heavy Industries, Vitzro Nextech, SPACEPRO, S&K Aerospace, Uconsystem, HyLok Corporation, Danam Systems, HIZE Composite Industries and HANYANG ENG.
The meeting provided a platform to hear firsthand industry feedback on the Nuri (KSLV-II) program and discuss practical measures to strengthen competitiveness through sustained Nuri launches.
Hanwha Aerospace, the system integrator, shared the status of preparations for the Nuri’s 5th launch and upcoming missions, highlighting the importance of expanding industry roles and collaboration as launch services transition to private-led operations.
Currently, the assembly of the Nuri 5 vehicle is 70-90% complete, with a targeted launch in the third quarter of 2026. This mission is planned to deploy five microsatellite constellations and ten secondary payload satellites into sun-synchronous orbit.
Participating companies unanimously emphasized that securing stable launch opportunities is a critical factor for revitalizing the launch vehicle industry. They called for continued demand creation and strengthened public-private cooperation to establish a competitive commercial launch service framework.
Administrator Taeseog oh stated, “We will revitalize the space industry ecosystem by building trust and enhancing competitiveness through the continued launch success of Nuri, the backbone of South Korea's space transportation infrastructure." He added, "The government will provide steadfast support so that the private sector can fully unleash its potential by listening closely to industry feedback and establishing effective policies. We also call on enterprises to make proactive investments for the subsequent launches of Nuri."
