- Announcement of New Project: Jeonnam (Goheung) Launch Vehicle Technology Commercialization Center (96.7 Billion KRW National Budget) Sept 11 -
On September 11th, the Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA), led by Administrator Yoon Youngbin, announced the commencement of the "Space Industry Cluster Tripartite System Construction Project (R&D)."
This project, designed to strengthen private-led space development capabilities and foster a self-sustaining ecosystem, will invest a total of 380.8 billion KRW over seven years, from 2024 to 2030, in three specialized districts: Jeonnam for launch vehicles, Gyeongnam for satellites, and Daejeon for research and talent development.
The current call for proposals focuses on selecting an organization to establish and operate a Launch Vehicle Technology Commercialization Center in Jeonnam (Goheung).
Under the National Research and Development Innovation Act (Article 9, Section 4-5)*, specific institutions have already been designated for each specialized district. These include the KARI Naro Space Center for the private launch site in Goheung, KTL Space Component Testing Center for the space environment test facility in Jinju, Gyeongnam Technopark for the Satellite Development Innovation Center in Sacheon, and KAIST for the Space Technology Innovation and Talent Development Center in Daejeon.
*Where research and development institutes that can perform a research and development project are limited and there is no practical benefit in proceeding with a public contest.
Interested companies and institutions can find detailed information and application procedures on the KASA website (www.kasa.go.kr).
Administrator Yoon commented, "This project will secure a driving force for the growth of the space industry and contribute significantly to building a sustainable space industry ecosystem. We will continue to collaborate with the government, local governments, and the private sector to foster and develop the space industry."
